Jacobo has always harbored the dream of conducting an orchestra to express his own versions of the great masters’ compositions. But this dream cannot come true without the help of like-minded musicians. Jacobo knows who these people Will be and calls them one by one during the pandemic lockdown. NOSTRUM MARE CAMERATA holds its first rehearsal in Winter 2020 in Valencia. Everyone is wearing a mask keeping the obligatory distance, and everyone is bubbling over with excitement. Maestro Cristóbal Soler enthusiastically supports these musicians, all trained as soloists, and all with unflagging determination.
The dream took shape in 2020 when violinist Jacobo Christensen, with the support of his mentor, maestro Cristóbal Soler, created NOSTRUM MARE CAMERATA, an orchestral string ensemble based in Valencia, Spain. At a time of great uncertainty in the cultural world, for a group of young musicians to form their own orchestra is an act of commitment and bravery.
Since the group’s debut at Valencia’s Olympia Theater in July 2021, its programs Alma Mater, Between Tangos and Habaneras, Agitato, Furor Amoris and Zeitgeist have been taken to prestigious festivals like the Torrevieja International Habanera and Poliphony Contest, the Oropesa del Mar International ORFIM Music Festival and the Peñíscola International Early and Baroque Music Festival. These fresh and enthusiastic performances have been received with avid acclaim.
With its conductor Jacobo Christensen, the orchestra Works with máximum creativity, with historically researched interpretations of all manner of musical genres, including venturing into contemporary pieces. Concerts combine chamber orchestral Works with pieces for solo instruments and voice.
Wherever it goes, the ensemble’s very personal and vibrant interpretations are received with avid acclaim.
